Decisions. Decisions.
When making your decision whether to take SL or HL History, it is useful to know the differences between the two.
Choosing SL History means:
Studying three topics
Sitting two exam papers
Approx. 150 teaching hours
Missing out on the depth study (History of Africa and the Middle East, History of the Americas, History of Asia and Oceania, OR History of Europe)
Choosing HL History means:
Studying six topics
Sitting three exam papers
Approx. 240 teaching hours
When it comes to weighing up how much work HL is compared to SL, bare these things in mind:
HL is an additional 90 teaching hours
HL will involve you being assessed on three extra essays (this allows more room for error than in SL where you are assessed only on two essays)
Now you are more informed to make your final decision. Please also take into consideration the following:
Are you interested in History?
Do you plan to study any Humanities subject at university?
Do you want to become a lawyer?
If your answer is yes to these three questions, I would strongly recommend you to take HL History.
Best of luck making your decision!
